Innovation Ecosystems Development and Management
This course explores how innovation is created, scaled, and sustained through complex ecosystems of interconnected actors rather than isolated firms.
Students will examine the shift from linear value chains to multi-stakeholder value networks and learn how universities, entrepreneurs, corporations, risk capital, government, and civil society jointly co-create economic and social value. The course introduces key frameworks such as the Five-Stakeholder Model, Triple and Quadruple Helix, platform ecosystems, co-opetition, orchestration, and governance. Through global case studies (e.g., Silicon Valley, Kendall Square, EU innovation hubs, digital platforms), students develop the ability to map ecosystem interdependencies, identify bottlenecks, design governance mechanisms, and understand strategies for value creation, value capture, resilience, and inclusive innovation.
The course equips future managers, policymakers, and ecosystem builders with tools to lead collaborative innovation in an era of digital platforms, AI, and systemic transformation.
